DISTRICT 13 DALLAS CITY COUNCILMEMBER JENNIFER STAUBACH-GATES CHAMPIONS PUBLIC INVESTMENT IN VICKERY MIDTOWN
We commend and thank Dallas City Councilmember Jennifer Gates for her astute and focused leadership on behalf of Vickery Midtown throughout her tenure of representing us at City of Dallas. She has been a strong advocate for public investment in the District, advancing growth and expansion to increase quality of life all around.
Council member Gates and her Policy Advisor and Council Liaison Sarah Evans and Assistant Alexandra Heller-Relayze have tirelessly worked on our District's behalf.
Among the leading projects that have been approved and initiated during Councilmember Gates' service are:
The Ridgecrest Road Petition: This $5.5 million bond project will improve Ridgecrest Road with safer sidewalks and bike trails, also providing better connection for all residents to the SoPac Trail, establishing a vital pedestrian and bike spine for the District from Park Lane. The Phoenix/Holly Hill Street Project: This is another key improvement of safer pedestrian environment with better sidewalks and bike trails for all residents of Vickery Midtown. Construction for the $850,000-plus project is planned to start in December 2020. Phoenix/Holly Hill (PB12S604).
New Dallas Public Library on Park Lane: A new center for the community of education and culture, opening in 2021. More details, Vickery Library
Jill Stone Elementary Dallas ISD New Campus: This beautiful new campus at Park Lane and Eastridge will provide the students with even more space to experience the wonderful tradition of Jill Stone Elementary's curriculum. Jill Stone Elementary School
Vickery Community Courthouse: This renovation of Fire Station at Greenville and Blackwell will create a new facility for our community. Scheduled to open Winter of 2021.

Across her tenure on Dallas City Council, Jennifer has been at the forefront of some of Dallas and the world's biggest challenges, including the Ebola outbreak that was centered in Vickery Midtown. The COVID 19 Pandemic has also brought Councilmember Gates' leadership to the forefront.
She has been honored to work with Parkland Hospital to bring a vitally needed Free COVID 19 Testing site into Vickery Midtown active now to serve the public health needs of her district, making sure especially that individuals and families in need have access to this vital resource.

Improvement of Fair Oaks Park Sidewalks, making sure that both the general public and the Dallas ISD students of Jack Lowe Elementary, Sam Tasby Middle School and Emmett J. Conrad High School have better pavement on their walks across the district to and from home.
Improvement to SoPac Trail to make this beautiful community amenity safer and stronger for enjoyment and access by all for transportation and recreation.
The Project Safe Neighborhood and TBK Bank Plaza initiatives at Five Points in Vickery Midtown have helped advance and strengthen the relationship and partnership between the community and Dallas Police Department, as well as the US Department of Justice to specifically focus on crime reduction and innovative solutions to consistently reduced crime. Within these initiatives, Councilmember Gates has worked closely with Vickery Midtown Public Improvement District and its extensive private security program to support Dallas Police Department. A Better Block has also led transformative work at Five Points to combat crime through environmental design and updates to establish a community space for everyone to access and utilize as a community center.
A community highlight each year for Councilmember Gates is Heart House's Festival of Lights that celebrates the diversity and energy of Vickery Midtown with a December celebration for children and families.
Councilmember Gates serves as Chair of the Government Performance and Financial Management Committee for City of Dallas and sits on the Economic Development, Quality of Life, Arts and Culture, Environment and Sustainability and Ad Hoc Administration Committees. Domestic Violence Taskforce, and holds regular meetings that help to bridge communication between the Dallas Police Department, the District Attorney's office, judges, and community partners. This collaboration aims to strengthen the forces that are fighting to end domestic violence in Dallas.
Additionally, Councilmember Gates serves a key role appointed by Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson as the liaison with the hospital system and COVID model researchers. The City has engaged Dr. Tim Bray with the University of Texas at Dallas Institute for Urban Policy Research who is working with other regional hospital, university, and educational public health groups to provide modeling to inform public policy decisions and your personal decisions. Noteworthy that Councilmember Gates is also a registered nurse.
